Desire – In the North AND South!

Today is release day for Desire in the Arctic! Happy Release Day, Stacy!!

This action/adventure contemporary romance manages to get steamy in a place that is very cold—the Arctic Circle. The hero and heroine need to survive in Alaska’s Gates of the Arctic National Park, the only US Park located in the Arctic Circle.

According to author Stacy Hoff, researching this remote location was a challenge unto itself. There is very little information about it, and fewer photos. The US. Parks Department has no park rangers on site and recommends that only experience campers attempt a visit. Those who do need to access the park by private plane, or risk crossing a ranging river after a five mile hike from the nearest highway. Snowstorms can happen almost all year round, even in July.

The things authors do to bring readers a good story…

Desire in the Arctic is the sequel to Desire in the Everglades but can be read as a stand-alone novel. For those curious about Desire in the Everglades, a 2015 BTS Red Carpet Award “rising Star” nominee, the book blurb for that one’s included, too.
DesireInTheArctic600What’s this sequel with the sexy cover about, anyway?

Ana Davis has been given the promotion of the century—from secretary to television producer. But the new job is not without its problems.

The network will do anything for ratings. In the executive’s scramble to come out on top, they reveal Ana’s newest show—one she’s forced to star in herself. She’ll have to survive in the Arctic Circle for twelve days. If she wins, she’ll get the prize money she desperately needs. But the stakes are high, she could lose her very life. Good thing she’s been paired with expert survivalist William “Redd” Redding, a mysterious, solitary and very sexy man. Too bad she thinks he doesn’t even want to talk to her.

William “Redd” Redding is a former Special Ops Marine in need of cash to help a cause near and dear to his heart. What he’s not in need of, however, is Ana Davis—his clueless but captivating partner. It’s up to Redd to ensure the two of them survive in the most dangerous, hostile environment of all. But worse than snowstorms, predators, and a scarcity of food is an even greater danger—Ana. Resisting her, when he wants her more than anything, is his hardest challenge yet. How does he go about protecting her when his ultimate goal is to protect his heart?

Now, let’s head waaaaay south for the book blurb for Desire in the Everglades:

DesireintheEverglades400Stephanie Lang’s successful career as a television producer can’t give her everything she wants out of life. Her personal goals of writing a romance novel and finding true love languish. Emotionally scarred by her fiancé’s affair with her cousin, she doesn’t have the confidence to go after either goal again. At least she has professional confidence to fall back on; she is ready to produce the company’s next hit show. But when her boss reveals what the show is about, a survival documentary starring a sexy hunk, Stephanie’s life is turned upside down.

Colin Brandt, billed as “The Evergladiator,” will tackle Florida’s Everglades with nothing more than his bare hands and a knife. Stephanie, instantly attracted to handsome, rugged, enigmatic Colin, worries he will not survive his twelve-day odyssey. If he does, he’ll win a million dollars. If he fails, his beloved family’s farm will go into foreclosure. Can Colin conquer the Everglades? And can he conquer her heart?

Resplendent Ruin (Resplendence #1) Blurb

Juliette Mason had it all—the perfect job, the perfect home, the perfect fiancé. She lived the perfect life. Until everything started to slowly fall apart.

Daniel, her attractive and success-driven fiancé, was the love of her life. For years she wanted nothing more than to finally walk down the aisle, to be Mrs. Daniel Clarke. But as time went by, the cracks in their relationship started to come to the surface, and Juliette found herself in a place she never imagined she would be. It was a place where she started to question everything about her life and her dreams, a place where nothing about her life made sense anymore—a place where she found Knox Taylor.

Knox didn’t count on falling in love. In fact, Knox didn’t count on anything really. He was blissfully happy living a fast life of reckless behavior, impulsive decisions, and beautiful women. He lived the perfect life of a flourishing bachelor—but then she happened.

Want a taste? Read on!

“Why are you in my room?”

Juliette yelped and jumped at the same time. She dropped the cuff which was still clutched in her hand, and the sound echoed through the room as it clashed against the bedpost.

“Oh my God,” she breathed, holding her hand against her chest. Her heart was beating a hundred miles an hour, and she could feel all the blood drain from her body, rushing to her burning cheeks.

“Why are you in my room?” His voice was right behind her now, and she swallowed hard. Not wanting to turn around and let him see the embarrassment on her face, she kept her back to him.

“I’m sorry,” she muttered and tried to scurry past him. But before she was able to make a getaway, he reached out and grabbed her wrist. A shockwave of extreme undiluted need shot up from his touch, through her spine, straight to her core. Holy crap, she couldn’t breathe.

His stare burned through her skin and her body felt like it was on fire. Startled by what she felt, she looked up at him.

His midnight hair was damp and unruly as ever, and his face slightly flushed.

There was no stopping her gaze from moving down.

“I, um…I…” She couldn’t think of a single thing to say, not one damn thing as she stared at his incredibly well-built, unbelievably toned chest with the faint dusting of black chest hair.

Down, down, down—like Alice in the rabbit hole—her attention went, until they reached the very prominent, very masculine V. Or what Lexi would call it, the “penis-pointer.”—Oh no, she didn’t? Did she just think about his…

Yes. Yes, she did.

“Up here, sweetheart,” he said, still clutching her wrist.

Her gaze shot up, another wave of embarrassment making its way to her already burning face. He had that damn arrogant grin he wore so well on his face. He knew the effect he had on her. He knew every dirty little thought that flashed through her mind during the last five seconds. Smug bastard!

She jerked her arm out of his hold and her skin instantly mourned the loss. “I just came to return your jacket.” It was a miracle that she didn’t stutter since she couldn’t form a single sentence in her head.

His arm dropped to his side and her eyes followed the movement. That’s when she noticed the white towel wrapped around his waist. For a split second the thought of what was behind that flimsy white towel made her thighs clench and her stomach tighten.

Look away!

He cocked a brow. “And you needed to put it in my room?”

“Well,” she searched for words, or an explanation, or something, “I just wanted to make sure you got it back safely.” Well, I certainly aced that explanation.

He looked at her suspiciously, and then his eyes went dark. “Whatever. You can leave now.” He dismissed her.

Oh hell no!

She gave a step forward. “Do you think that women actually find this whole jackass approach of yours attractive?” she spat out.

“I don’t know, do you?”

Struggling—yet again—to think on her feet, she just stared at him, completely blank. Nice.

He gave a step toward her, traces of the darkness in his eyes she saw a second ago gone. What she could only interpret as a sexy-as-hell grin crossed his face, showing off his ridiculously distracting dimples.

I want to trace those dimples with my tongue… Stop!

All of a sudden the entire atmosphere between them changed from awkward, to angry, to—electrifying. Her skin tingled, and she was suddenly painfully aware that except for the flimsy towel wrapped around his waist, he was completely and utterly naked.

With somewhat furrowed brows and the corners of his mouth pulled back just enough for her to wonder if he was about to smile or frown, he slowly started toward her. With each step he took, she instinctively gave one step back. This was probably what trapped prey felt like being stalked by a wild, hungry predator. Adrenalin would pump through the prey’s veins as it prepared to run for its life or brace itself for impact. The only difference was that the adrenalin pumping through her veins was for an entirely different reason than wanting to escape her predator. In fact, she wanted to run to the predator.

Stupid, stupid prey!

She inhaled sharply when her back hit the wall. Her body started to shiver as he leaned into her. Heat burned through her skin while her heart beat wildly inside of her chest.

He placed his hands flush against the wall just above her shoulders and looked down at her, his eyes a frenzy of heat and seduction. Every inch of her body felt electrified, like it was leaning over the edge of unadulterated lust in search of ecstasy.

He cocked his head to the side and he stared at the soft, exposed skin of her neck. She was pretty sure he could have seen the vein pulsating to the rhythm of her heart. She felt completely intoxicated by the way he moved, the way he smelled, and the way it felt having him so close up against her. She closed her eyes and felt him slowly trace the edge of his nose up her neck, all along her jaw until she could feel his lips brush against her ear.

“Tell me, Jules,” he whispered, the words coated with sheer unmistakable allure.

“Tell you what?” she asked dazed. She could not remember what the hell they were talking about.

He focused all his attention on her lips while he kept his mouth mere inches from hers. It was complete agony having his lips so close to hers and not being able to feel it.

“Do you find my jackass approach attractive?”

His warm breath waved over her wet lips and an inferno of flames erupted inside of her, leaving her incapable of thinking about anything else than what his lips would feel like pressed firmly against hers.

In the meantime, here’s a little tattoo info from the author :).

So, I thought an interesting subject to tackle today would be…

Knox’s Tattoo!

And the fact that the sexy as hell cover of my novel has a guy with killer back muscles which are literally screaming for me to touch it, sporting an epic tattoo has nothing to do with my choice of subject…

Okay… that’s a lie… It’s totally got everything to do with it.

So in my wildest dreams I never thought Knox’s tattoo could look that good. Of course I’ve imagined him in very hot and steamy scenes which involved those beautifully rippled, hard muscles flexing and moving, allowing that tattoo to come to life beneath Juliette’s fingers, – or mine. But when I saw that tattoo for the first time, I squealed like a damn teenage girl at a Justin Bieber concert.

I mean, look at that tattoo! Do you blame Juliette for wanting Knox’s body so bad? That tattoo just screams brooding bad boy. And who doesn’t want to get their hands on a bad boy? I know I do. Knox is wild, untamed, and he just oozes sex appeal and promises of dangerously pleasurable nights – or days – nights and days. And that tattoo… well that tattoo is just like the cherry on the delicious looking frosting if you ask me.

Can you imagine being able to trace your fingertips across every little line of that tattoo? Holy crap-sticks, I would have the time of my life! I’ve zoomed in on that cover picture – a lot – and I’ve seen every last detail of that amazing tattoo. There are a lot of lines to trace, people, a lot of body to cover with a fingertip. Oh, it would be heaven wrapped up in a little bow of blue.

Okay – so I’m going to stop right there before I get too carried away, which I would probably enjoy way too much, which I’m guessing my husband would not appreciate. Besides, writing this little piece reminded me that I have to email the artist pronto and find out who that damn model is. Surely as the author, one of the perks should be getting those cover models’ phone numbers?

Oh in a perfect world!

Ha ha – who is the hilarious author behind this awesome book?

Delicious Writing (and a Recipe!)

What do food, sex, and romance have in common? If you’re me, a lot! Let’s see… I love food. Check. I love sex. Check. I love romance. Check. Combine the three? Holy moly, sign me up! Or better yet, why don’t I write about it?

Really. It’s called Delicious Deception, and it just released TODAY! Here’s how it all started….

Caddo Lake_Kids_2012In April, 2012, my family travelled to Louisiana to visit my father, who lives in Bossier City. It was a beautiful spring, near to Easter, and the weather was perfect. Dad loaded up the boat and took us all for a ride on Caddo Lake (the pic is of my kids, having a blast while Grandpa took them for a boat ride). I had lived in Shreveport (across the Red River from Bossier City) for eleven years, and had only been to Caddo Lake once. I remember when I was in high school, my girlfriend and I drove out to a public beach and went swimming, one hot summer Saturday. Until 2012, that was the extent of my knowledge of this beautiful and fascinating lake.

Caddo Lake_Oil PumpCaddo Lake straddles the Texas-Louisiana state line. It is the only natural lake in the entire state of Texas. There’s oil in them there, er, waves. So if you’re cruising around the lake, you’ll have to dodge these fascinating machines, perched just above the water line, slowly churning oil from the lake’s depths. It’s admittedly a gorgeous pic, during sunset. And cool as heck as you’re cruising past these contraptions.

Caddo Lake Bayou_2012Caddo Lake is also full of bayous. A bayou, by definition, is, “(in the southern US) a marshy outlet of a lake or river.” This was the best part of cruising Caddo Lake, meandering down the various bayous, admiring the scenery. Some were utterly wild – nothing but egrets and alligators, turtles and Spanish moss draped cyprus trees to keep you company. Some were straight residential – rows upon rows of houses built on stilts. I remember snapping pics like a tourist, so fascinated was I by these far above ground homes. I wished one of the residents offered public tours. I would pay to wander through, to have a glimpse of what it must be like to live on a bayou, in a house in the air.Caddo Lake_House on Stilts_2012

Then there were the bayous that were a mix of the above, plus businesses as well. It was down one of these bayous, on the Texas side, that we happened upon a restaurant called Uncertain General Store & Grill. It was located in Uncertain, Texas, a tiny town with a population of less than 200 residents, but with an intriguing and rich history. We docked our boat and picked our way through the swampy front yard toward the eating establishment and I wondered why this quaint town was called Uncertain. Caddo Lake_Uncertain

I learned that the town is near Uncertain Landing, so named because steamboat captains on their way to and from Jefferson, TX (where they unloaded their goods to be transported out to the developing West) in earlier days often had troubles mooring their vessels, due to fluctuating water levels.

Caddo Lake_Uncertain Wine GlassMy family fell in love with this adorable town, with the restaurant and the southern fried food we gorged ourselves on. By the time we left, I was ready to move to this backwoods place. As my husband has a deep-seated hatred for anything he deems too hot, I settled for writing about it, instead. Hence, Delicious Deception, which takes place at my imagination’s version of the Uncertain General Store & Grill.

And if that wasn’t enough of a story, I added even more of my personal experience. Yep. My husband, lucky me, happens to be an outrageously good cook. Like, super hot, crazy turns you on, amazing cook. He makes a lot of things really well, including Cajun food, but there’s one dish in particular that shows up in Delicious Deception. My husband makes this dessert called Molten Lavas Cake, which he found on The Food Network website, and is courtesy of the amazingly talented Paula Deen. The first time he made it and gave me a taste of the batter, he asked what I thought. I said the first word that popped into my head.

There may or may not be a similar scene in Delicious Deception. Just sayin’. So, after you read the book, and are practically salivating for a taste of… something sweet, here’s the Molten Lava Cake recipe. I hope it is as good for you as it always is for me!

Molten Choc Cake
Molten Lava Cakes
Total Time: 44 min
Prep: 30 min
Cook: 14 min
Yield:6 cakes
6 (1-ounce) squares bittersweet chocolate
2 (1-ounce) squares semisweet chocolate
10 tablespoons (1 1/4 stick) butter
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
3 large eggs
3 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons orange liqueur
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Grease 6 (6-ounce) custard cups. Melt the chocolates and butter in the microwave, or in a double boiler. Add the flour and sugar to chocolate mixture. Stir in the eggs and yolks until smooth. Stir in the vanilla and orange liqueur. Divide the batter evenly among the custard cups. Place in the oven and bake for 14 minutes. The edges should be firm but the center will be runny. Run a knife around the edges to loosen and invert onto dessert plates.

**NEW RELEASE** Killing Me Softly

Congrats, Kathryn R. Biel, on your latest release, Killing Me Softly! I have it on my iPhone and I’m looking forward to spending the weekend reading it! I loved the last book I read by Kathryn, Jump, Jive, and Wail, so I *know* I’ll love this one, too. Want to know what it’s about? Here you go:

Sadie Perkins has a sixth sense about things—especially people dying. Her clairvoyance has never bothered her until she starts to believe that her visions are causing the deaths of those around her. After her latest relationship ends … badly … Sadie swears off love for good. While searching for an uncomplicated life, Sadie finds her hands full not only with a home renovation project but with defending herself against suspicion of murder. There’s a fine line between predicting someone’s death and causing it. Has Sadie finally crossed that line?

Enter contractor Max Schultz, who is not only good at working on houses, but he’s good at working on Sadie too. Much to Max’s dismay, as he’s trying to win Sadie’s heart, he finds Sadie’s first love, Henry Fitzsimmons, is back in the picture, snooping around.

Sadie doesn’t know which way to turn or who to trust, including herself. Can Sadie clear her name and open her heart all at the same time?

Killing Me Softly Cover

The first person I ever killed was a has-been comedian. I didn’t mean to kill him, of course. The tabloid websites said it was drugs and alcohol, but I knew the truth. It was all my fault. My friends and I had been out drinking, and I quoted a line from this guy’s most popular movie. The movie was still relatively obscure, and I had to explain it. Someone asked, “Whatever happened to that guy?” and my answer was, “Oh, he’s probably drinking himself to death right now.”

Guess what? He was.

This sort of thing happens to me more often than I’d like to admit. I don’t even know what to call it—psychic ability, premonitions, a sixth sense? It’s not creepy, not really. Just enough to send a small chill up my spine. It never bothered me—until death got involved. Most of the time, it’s pretty innocuous. Like someone from my past will pop into my head, and the next day I run into them. Or I think about a song that I haven’t heard in years and then suddenly it comes on the radio. Nothing big, just coincidences. A lot of coincidences.

Until the day it started turning fatal.

Rob, my boyfriend of almost two years, doesn’t believe me. When something happens and I tell him, “Oh, I had a dream about that,” or “I was just thinking about this,” he says I’m trying to be dramatic and seek attention. (which wouldn’t really be such a big stretch, considering my family. We’re the poster children for dysfunction). But I’m not like the rest of my family. I actually don’t even tell many people about it because I don’t want attention, certainly not for this. I want to be taken seriously. I teach high school American history. With kids these days being tougher and tougher, I need as much street cred as I can get. The last thing I need is for them to think I’m some kind of quack or whack job.

My best friend, Therese, knows all about it. She’s one of the few people I can talk to about this topic. She doesn’t judge me or think I’m weird. I think she thinks I can predict the future or something. Which would be cool, but it is not what I do. I think I’m just intuitive at times. Who knows?

Over the years, since the comedian episode, I think I’ve been “responsible” for at least four deaths. A couple celebrities, a distant relative, and a well-known local businessman. When I have the dreams or make the comments, I don’t recognize them as premonitions. They’re just random thoughts that pop into my brain and often fly out of my mouth without me even realizing what I’m saying. People are used to me doing that. It’s only later, after the event, that I realize what happened. In each case, I made an unkind remark. It’s not just a premonition—I say something mean and then someone’s dead.

I Found A New Book Boyfriend!

On today’s Appetizing April blog, you get a character interview and an author interview! It is my pleasure to introduce Susan Behon, author of Fall For You, available now through Liquid Silver Books. First, let’s hear from Reed Sutton, the hero from Fall For You, who has a thing for the owner of the local bakery, Cookie Jar. Then we’ll hear from Susan, the creative force behind this fabulous book.

TT: Tell us about yourself. Do you consider yourself your author’s muse or bane of her existence?

RS: My name is Reed Sutton. Since coming home from the Navy, I’ve taken over management of my family’s construction company. I’d have to say I’m Susan Behon’s muse. She loves to write about me since I make an awesome book boyfriend. What? It’s true!

TT: Ha ha. I love an awesome book boyfriend. Especially one with a sense of humor. With that said, what will readers like the best about you?

RS: Readers will like my sense of romance and my drive to make Sophie Brandon mine. Did I mention I like to talk dirty during love scenes?

TT: Funny, sexy, determined, and talks dirty? Oh my, you are a true book boyfriend! Who is the lucky lady in your book?

RS: Sophie Brandon is in my sights as the future Mrs. Sutton. She runs a bakery called the Cookie Jar in our hometown of Madison Falls. I’d have to say that she has it all: Beauty, brains, and a heart of gold. Did I mention she’s also sexy as hell?

TT: Maybe you are both lucky, eh? Okay, you seem like you’d be up for a little naughty fun. Favorite place to seduce your partner?

RS: My favorite, so far, is the cab of my pickup truck. We, uh, got creative since we missed out on making out back in high school. Don’t tell Sophie I told you that.

TT: My lips are sealed. What do you wish Sophie understood about you?

RS: I wish Sophie would understand that she’s my top priority and no one will keep us apart.

TT: You sound determined. Another check in the positive book boyfriend category. Tell me this, if you could rewrite one scene in the book, what would it be? How would you rewrite it?

RS: I would rewrite the scene where Sophie and I get hot and bothered in the storeroom. I would cut out the part where my best friend, Ben, interrupts us.

TT: Oh no! Speaking of, any other embarrassing situations in your book?

RS: I mention Sophie’s decorative underwear in front of my family. I was in the hospital so no one can hold it against me.

TT: Yes, I think we can say you were under duress! Is there anything specific in this book of which you are particularly proud?

RS: Well, there is the interlude in the truck…

TT: And there’s that sense of humor again… All right, it’s time to wrap up this interview.  Would you like to add anything else?

RS: Read Fall For You and get to know me. You’ll love Sophie too.

Now, let’s learn about the fascinating lady who came up with Reed’s story!

TT: Let’s start with the basics. Tell us a little about yourself.

SB: I graduated summa cum laude with a B. A. in English and a minor in Early Childhood Education. I put my career on pause while I enjoyed the glamorous life of being a stay at home mom. My high school sweetheart is also my husband of over 20 years. I also confess that I have a mad addiction to romance novels and Reese’s Cups.

TT: Now, tell us one incredibly strange or unique thing about you.

SB: I’m a green eyed, left handed, triplet. I was the first born and runt of the “litter.” 🙂

TT: Wow, that’s definitely unique! Okay, are you a pet person?

SB: At this time, I have geriatric dog named Max. He made a guest role in Fall For You as Sophie’s dog. Sophie’s Max was much smarter but I love my Max anyway.

TT: I understand. The newest addition to my family, Kaya, was featured in one of my books, too. How about seasons – winter or summer?

SB: I am a summer girl! I am usually freezing from October through April. I’m a big fan of heat and sunshine.

TT: Okay, one more: red or white?

SB: If we’re talking wine, I adore merlot and moscato. To be honest, I prefer the cheap Arbor Mist fruity flavors with the twist cap bottles to the real stuff.

TT: Hey, everybody has a favorite. I’m a big fan of wine, and my tastes vary from $4 bottles to far more than I have a right to spend on a bottle. Now, let’s get to the books. In which genre (s) do you write?

SB: I write contemporary romance.

TT: Is there anything specific that inspires you? How did you come up with the idea behind Fall For You?

SB: I get my ideas and inspiration from real life. I am an observer of human nature and I find that truth really is stranger than fiction. The idea for my last book is based on a real life dive behind a table of bread in an effort to avoid being seen at the grocery store. The rest is completely made up.

TT: How many books have you written?

SB: I have written two books and have a third in progress. The first book, Fall For You, Book One in the Madison Falls series, was released on March 2. The second book, More Than Words, is due out May 11, 2015.

Fall For you is a contemporary romance set in the small town of Madison Falls. Sophie Brandon and Reed Sutton heat up her bakery when they run into each other again.

The second book, More Than Words, is a continuation of the series. Ben Carrington and Tracy King get their turn at love.

TT: Readers love to know: how steamy is Fall For You?

SB: According to LSBooks, it’s rated a level 2 Spicy. The relationships are definitely consummated in detail, repeatedly. 🙂

TT: Excellent! Er… *clears throat* That was a little excited, eh? Is this book part of a series?

SB: This book is part of the Madison Falls Series. It is set in the small town of Madison Falls. Reed Sutton is back in town after 8 years in the service. The construction manager is home to stay and cookie baker, Sophie Brandon, is undeniably drawn to him.

Each book follows their friends and family as they get their chance at true love.

TT: Do you have a favorite excerpt you want to share here?

SB: Here’s a quick teaser:

Reality intruded when Sophie realized she was covered in powdered sugar, the heel of her shoe was jammed under a shelf, and Reed hadn’t let go of her yet. The bad news was that her chance at wowing him with her frilly green sundress had bit the dust. The good news, obviously, was that Reed hadn’t let go of her yet.

TT: Oh my, that’s great! Do you have a website? How about social media? How can your newest fans stalk you?

SB: I’m everywhere! 🙂 You can find me at:

TT: Now, before they get lost in Reed and Sophie’s story, ask my blog readers a question, which they can answer in the comments below.

SB: What is the sexiest quality/attribute that you look for in a romantic hero?

TT: I think I’ve already answered this question for myself, above. Can’t wait to read what others think. Okay, Susan, thank you for joining us today! Now, for the important question: How can we read your books?

Thank you, Susan and Reed both, for joining us today! Happy reading!

Meet Thrand from Ashlynn Pearce’s New Release, FUEL

I was given the privilege of reading Fuel, the latest fun and sexy release by Ashlynn Pearce, and the first in the Dirtslap series. This is a five-star read. But don’t assume I know what I’m talking about. Take a look at this interview with Thrand. He’s a drummer, living in Nashville, initially trying to make a living as a studio drummer, until a friend suggests he should start his own band. That band is called Dirtslap, and they’re freaking amazing. A little country, a little rock, a lot sexy.

Fuel is Thrand and Cassie’s story, and Ashlynn Pearce, the author, managed to catch him during a brief moment of downtime – with the entire band, I might add – and she shared the interview with me. I am, in turn, sharing it with you, because we all deserve to read about a sexy drummer and his obsession with a spirited girl from his past. Take it away, Ashlynn…

I’d interviewed Cassie a few weeks ago, so now I thought it might be Thrand’s turn. He said I could meet him at his place, because they were going to have band practice.

I’d learned my lesson from Cassie and wasn’t wearing slacks. I’d opted for shorts and a casual top—and since I was in Nashville, short cowboy boots.

I pulled up to the address. Two trucks and two Harleys are parked in the drive.

Great…the entire band is here. I ring the doorbell, my nerves getting the better of me. Sure, I know these guys, (I created them) but still, I have no idea what to expect.

The door is yanked open and the guy’s warm brown eyes sparkle as he flashes me a cocky grin.

“We got a groupie,” he yells to the guys inside.

Uh, no. Just here to interview Thrand. You must be Ryan.”

“Thrand? Why the hell would you interview him? You should interview me.” He waggles his eyebrows and opens the door wider so I can step inside.

“Cause you’re a punk,” another guy says. “Don’t make us put you in a corner. And she’s interviewing me cause I started this band. Not you.”

Ryan is cute but Thrand captures my attention. Tall, maybe 6 foot, with intense gray-blue eyes. The short hair, clipped close to his head, and barely there scruff. He’s wearing a tank that exposes the tattooed sleeve on his left arm. Wide shoulders with a clear definition of muscle in his arms, he makes my mouth a little dry. Or maybe wet. “Actually, I’m interviewing you for your story. Not really because of the band. And sorry if I’m late.”

“You’re not late. They’re early. And for my story, huh?” He rubs the back of his neck, looking slightly uncomfortable.

I can’t seem to not stare at the way he moves. Smooth and fluid, it’s a tad nerve-wracking. Then I catch a glimpse of the insanely tall guy leaning against the bar and I lose all track of thought. Looking like he belongs on a metal stage, he wears all black, with a lip ring, gauges, and sports black mussed up spiky hair. He smirks when he catches me staring and I about swallow my tongue when I spot dimples.

“Yeah, I’m Ethan.”

It’s all his says but that Georgian drawl sends my mind spiraling into the gutter. Or up to heaven. I’m not really sure.

“So what do you want to know?” Thrand asks as he walks over and sits on his drum stool and adjusts a few things.

It forces my attention back to the task at hand. Except then I notice a guy hunched over a bass, with hair hanging in his face. He doesn’t even look at me. That must be Zak. I clear my throat and focus on Thrand, who’s looking at me expectantly. “Sorry, I didn’t know everyone would be here. So I guess I’ll ask you what I asked Cassie.”

“You interviewed Cas?” His brows draw together and he frowns.

“Yes, I did. She didn’t really have patience for the interview.”

He chuckles. “Cause she doesn’t have any at all.”

“No. She didn’t seem to. First question, what is your idea of perfect happiness?”

Ryan snorts and gyrates his hips as he calls out, “A happy ending. It’s what all guys want.”

Ethan cuffs him on the back of the head. “I don’t think that’s what she meant.”

Heat creeps up my neck as I try to ignore Ryan’s crude remark.

Thrand glares at Ryan then says, “I’d say getting out of Oklahoma. Everything after that is gravy.”

I scribble it down, thinking Cassie said about the same thing. “Your greatest fear?”

The room is eerily quiet and it seems the entire band want to know the answer to that one. Thrand is obviously thinking about it as he leans forward, elbows on his knees.

“Never being able to make music again.” His words are measured, his eyes hooded.

I get the impression he’s not being totally honest here. And Cassie said something similar, except her answer had to do with taking pictures. “What quality do you like best in a woman?”

“Big tits,” Ryan says and jumps up, prancing around the room and acting like he’s cupping boobs.

I can’t help but laugh as I turn back to Thrand who is just shaking his head with an exasperated look on his face.

“You know there is more in life than tits and beer, right?”

Ryan looks shocked then rolls his eyes.

“One day a girl is going to come along and knock you right on your ass,” Thrand states.

“Naw. Watching it happen to you has been scary enough.”

“He has a point,” Ethan says. “That girl has you running in circles.”

Thrand’s jaw works. “There’s nothing going on there. She’s just a friend.”

“Sure. I’ll believe that when you convince me Santa is real,” Ryan takes a swig of his beer as he falls onto the couch.

I don’t have to ask about who they are talking about. I met Cassie. She’s a whirlwind.

“You have any other questions?” Thrand asks me and twirls a drumstick in his hand.

“Last one. What do you regard as the lowest depths of misery?”

He instantly pales and his eyes darken. “Lady, that’s a real damn personal question and we have band practice.”

With that, I’m ushered out the door without a chance to say anything else. I walk slowly to my car as I hear the bang and crash of drums and the riffs of guitar. I’m thinking that didn’t go well at all and I’d wished they’d would have let me stay and watch DirtSlap in action.

Once upon a time…You ain’t gonna believe this sh**!

(I always wanted to start a bio like that!) But seriously–scrap that, I’m not serious, but I do love to write. Create characters. Give them hope that there is something better around the corner. It’s my passion. I live and breathe stories. When I’m not arguing with the characters in my head (yes, I do that, you can ask my hubby who thinks I’m nuts btw), I’m taking care of said hubby, my two kids and a melee of furbabies. I’m Okie born and bred and, yes, we get a lot of twisters and, no, there aren’t any teepees around that I’ve seen.

Stop by my website and follow me around to see what I’m up to next!

DirtSlap is coming…ya’ll ready to get a lil dirty, right? 😉

No Turning Back Now – Happy Release Day, Lauren Greene!

I found another new release. Okay, I didn’t exactly find it. *eye roll* Lauren is a friend of mine, and the book is super cool, and have you seen this cover??

Yeah, exactly. One of those I-should-judge-a-book-by-it’s-cover moments. Still, I’m sure you want to know what it’s about. Here’s the blurb:

Kaia Hart seems to have it all: a career as a successful architect, two perfect children, and a handsome husband, Patrick, but she’s haunted by an accident in her past.  On a business call, one day, she’s surprised to find Asher, her once-love, has moved to town and will be working with her.  In “No Turning Back,” Kaia faces nightmares from her past and big decisions about her future, as the two worlds collide.  Will Kaia give up everything for Asher, or will she find comfort in the arms of Patrick?

Holy intriguing, Batman! Let’s have a look at what reviewers say about this one:

“This is an ordinary yet strikingly powerful tale about the choices we make and the doors we close by making them – about never being able to have that other choice again…. A smart and thought provoking read.” — Amazon review

“Lauren Greene takes us into the life of Kaia Hart, a young mother with two children who has married for the wrong reasons. Then Asher Kendrick walks back into her life and with him she relives all she could have had but is he the one she really wants? The ending is unexpected…” — Amazon review

“I love the way the Author Lauren Greene drags the reader into the book immediately with drama and a great opening paragraph. From that moment the excitement and intrigue never slows down.” — Goodreads review

Love triangle, tough choices, and a strong heroine caught in the middle. What’s not to love? No Turning Back released today! Congratulations, Lauren. As for you, here are the buy links:

Tease Me with some Undercover Heat

It’s excerpt time! Since Undercover Heat releases one week from today, I thought you might like a little tease. Give you a sample of what you’ll be unable to put down next week. In the below scene, Kyra and Quinn have just moved into the house they will be sharing as part of an undercover FBI operation. They are pretending to be husband and wife in an effort to bring down a woman who has been running Ponzi schemes for years. The two agents aren’t particularly excited about sharing a house and a case, as you can see from the below interaction.

Enjoy, and remember, Undercover Heat releases on January 19th! You can add it to your Goodreads TBR here, or you can pre-order it here.

“Oh look, there’s our neighbor. Wave, honey.” He plastered a fake smile on his face and wrapped one arm around her shoulders as he waved with his other hand.

A woman stood on the deck in the yard directly behind them, holding a glass of red wine in one hand. She had bleached blond hair styled into a sort of bouffant and wore a red suit with a short, tightly fitted skirt and red stiletto heels. She waved back but made no move to walk across the yard to greet them.

“That the perp who’s been stealing hard-earned dollars from Dallas’s upper echelon? The queen of Ponzi schemes?”

“Yes. And from Detroit’s elite now, it would seem,” Kyra said. She was distracted by the feel of his arm around her shoulders; she didn’t trust Quinn not to hit on her again. “Why are you hugging me?”

“We’re married. Newlyweds. Don’t newlyweds like to hug each other?”

“I suppose,” she grumbled. “Listen, we need to establish some ground rules.”

“Ground rules?”

“Yes. Between us.”

“We need to establish ground rules?”

Was he making fun of her? She wasn’t sure, but she persisted anyway.

“This case, these living arrangements, it’s just the job. Do you understand what I mean?”

Quinn twisted his head and cocked one dark eyebrow. “Aren’t you worried our neighbor can hear you?”

“No. She’s, like, fifty yards away. I’m serious, Quinn. Do you understand what I mean?”

“I’m not sure what you mean specifically, but if you are trying to explain that this is just a case and we are going to be playing house for hopefully a very short period of time, I’m pretty sure I get it.”

“Good. I’m glad we’re on the same page. After Friday night, I admit I was a little worried.” She laughed nervously.

“What happened Friday night?”

“You don’t remember?”

He shrugged. “Saturday morning, I woke up with a woman in my bed and I don’t even remember how she got there.”

Great. He took my advice. For some reason, it irritated her.

“Okay, forget it, then.”

“Not a problem,” Quinn responded, and then he said, “Let’s see if we can get her to come over and say hi.” Before she could ask how he intended to do that, Quinn used the arm around her shoulder to pull her close. He twisted his body so they were suddenly face to face, and then with a lazy, teasing grin, he dipped his head, closed his eyes, and kissed her.

Kyra was so shocked at his behavior, she immediately put her hands against his shoulders and tried to shove him away.

“This isn’t very newlywed-ish of you, baby,” he mumbled against her lips.

She twisted her head to the side. “Stop it,” she said, her voice coming out almost like a hiss.

He stopped trying to kiss her, but he did not release her from his grip. “I’m not much of an expert on the subject, but I’m pretty sure newlyweds like to kiss.”

“They do, but that doesn’t mean you and I have to do it.”

“Aren’t we newlyweds?”

“We’re pretending, you asshole.”

“She’s coming.”

“What?” Kyra gave a small yelp and twisted in Quinn’s arms to watch the neighbor—her case—pick her way across the lawn in $200 heels.

“She’s coming over here because we were kissing?” she said in disbelief.

“Curiosity, I’m sure. Maybe she’s into threesomes.”

Kyra punched his arm.

“Ow,” he complained as he rubbed the offending spot. “Shit, that hurt.”

That Sinking Feeling…Wahoo! A Submarine Ride

Today, I welcome KayLyn Cooper to my blog. Besides having just released a new book called Christmas in Cancun, KayLyn also recently returned from vacation – and she’s talking about it below. I wonder if this experience will turn into a book?

We just returned from the annual family vacation, celebrating Christmas early with Macho Marine’s side. They always choose a warm climate.

Unlike the last several years, we did NOT go to Cancun. And in case you were wondering, those vacations were the impetus to write Christmas in Cancun which is now available most everywhere books are sold.

This year we cruised the Southern Caribbean. Look for Captivated in Cancun in 2015. Lilly’s story will take you into the world of human trafficking via cruise ships. Are you seeing a pattern here?

If you’ve ever taken a cruise, you know there are excursions you can take in every port. I’ve always wanted to dive deep, but that becomes very complicated using SCUBA gear, so when I saw the opportunity to take a ride in a submarine, I jumped on it. Literally.

For Macho Marine, it was no big deal. As a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, he’d spent time in a “real” sub before deciding big gray boats weren’t for him. But for this woman, who at one time had dreamed of exploring the ocean’s bottom as a career, it was AWESOME!

KayLyn_WaterThrough the large portals on both sides, you could see so much. Purple fan coral three-feet in diameter swayed in the current. Tubular, lime-green sponges shot straight up from the sandy floor. Whips of black coral six-feet long stretched to reach the surface far above. Yellow and red brain coral the size of an ottoman sat unaffected as the 48-passenger sub passed by. A school of juvenile, yellow tail fish, twelve to twenty inches, long circled us as we slowly we descended to 148 feet below the surface. The further we went down, the more sparse the life. It became an undersea desert of white sand, and a shipwreck. The vessel had been scuttled several years ago as part of reef-building, but it was still cool.

As an author, I want readers to feel like they are with Rafe and Harper (Explosive Combination) running through the dense, humid jungle in Colombia, and snorkeling on the colorful reef to see the underwater Virgin Mary with Jack and Jillian (Christmas in Cancun). Maybe someday I’ll write a book about a submarine.

KayLyn EarringsI want to hear from you – If for Christmas, someone gave you the trip of a lifetime, you could go anywhere in the world, all expenses paid, where would you go? What would you do? Tell me about your dream vacation and you’ll be entered to win the Christmas in Cancun promotion diamond earrings.
