A Prisoner and a Virgin Walk into a Bar…

It’s a new release. It’s the end of a series. It’s the story of a woman who’s job is to save the world, and a man who’s job is to destroy her. Good thing he’s a prisoner. Except she’s become friendly with him, which cannot possibly bode well, for, well, anybody…

Here’s a taste of PRISONER OF FATE, Book 3 in the Twisted Fate Series:

cover

The First’s pet Rakshasa lounged in the wicker chair, one cotton-covered leg crooked over the armrest, the other perched on the floor. He hummed a tune Lily didn’t recognize, while he twirled what looked like a grilled jumbo shrimp on a stick.

He abruptly stopped humming and lifted his face and sniffed the air. Lily scuttled behind a nearby pillar. She waited until her heart wasn’t beating quite so erratically, then she peeked out from behind the column.

The shifter stared directly at her with unblinking black eyes.

“Oh,” she squeaked, unnerved by the solid, steady stare.

“Chala.” His voice was deep, like that actor from the insurance commercials she saw on television.

Lily felt that intense sense of awareness sweep through her again, licking at her insides, making her feel both hot and cold at the same time. She dropped her head back and leaned against the cool pillar and gave in to the racking shiver.

“No need to hide, Chala. I cannot harm you so long as you remain outside the reach of my lovely necklace.” He chuckled at his own joke.

Lily risked another look. He still lounged on the wicker chair, although the shrimp on the end of the stick was gone. And he still watched her with that breathtaking intensity.

“I–I didn’t think you would be awake,” she stuttered.

“I wouldn’t think you would be awake,” he countered. “It is terribly late. Is it not past your bedtime, Chala?”

Lily slowly stepped out from behind the pillar and stood next to it, feeling oddly exposed. Not returning to her room to change suddenly seemed like a poor decision.

“It’s Lily,” she said. “Lily Gallow. I hate it when people call me Chala,” she said, hoping he would appreciate the show of solidarity. She had to believe he hated to be referred to as “Pet.”

“Why? Are you not a Chala? Have my senses finally gone askew, after all this time?”

“Yes, I am. But I have a name, and I prefer people use it. Just as I imagine you do.”

“Are you asking for my name, Chala?”

“Yes,” she said boldly. “You must have one. Everyone has a name.”

“The First does not,” he pointed out.

“She does,” Lily countered. “She just chooses not to use it. You, I assume, didn’t have a choice in the matter.”

He paused, watching her for several heartbeats worth of time. “No,” he said finally. “I was not given a choice.”

Lily rolled her eyes. “I take it you aren’t going to tell me.”

The shifter chuckled. “Maybe I do not remember. I have been called Pet for a thousand years, you know.”

Lily shook her head. “You remember. I’m sure of it.” She paused, and when he still did not offer his name, she asked, “What do you miss most about your freedom?”

The shifter stared at her, blinking far less frequently than most other people she’d encountered. Finally, he sighed and kicked his foot into the air.

“I haven’t had a good kill, a good steak, or a good fuck in a thousand years. I miss everything, Lily Gallow. Everything.”

Fall in love with the entire Twisted Fate series…

What’s it about?

They were supposed to be enemies, not lovers. Tanner Lyons is a shifter without a pack, which is just the way he likes it—until he rescues Olivia Bennett, princess of the Lightbearers. Suddenly, he finds himself fighting an attraction that makes no sense, because Lightbearers and shifters have been mortal enemies since the beginning of time. Intrigue, adventure, magic, and passion – you’ll find it all in Into the Light, Book 1 of Tami Lund’s exciting new fantasy series, Lightbearers.

Shifters dominate the human world, while Lightbearers stay hidden away in their magically protected coterie. That is, until Olivia Bennett, princess of the Lightbearers, is captured by the most powerful shifter of them all—Quentin Lyons, who believes that to kill a Lightbearer is to inherit her magic.

His son, Tanner, doesn’t believe his father’s theory. In the ultimate betrayal, Tanner rescues Olivia and vows to return her to her home. Along the way, he discovers two other Lightbearers who have left the safety of the coterie, not to mention an attraction to the Lightbearer princess that becomes increasingly more difficult to ignore with each hour he spends in her company.

The attraction makes no sense. Lightbearers and shifters have been mortal enemies since the dawn of time. He’s supposed to feel the urge to kill her, not … well, you know.

Despite shifters who are out to kill them and Lightbearers who don’t trust them, Tanner and Olivia decide to take the chance and give in to their mutual attraction, only to discover that Olivia’s destiny has been predetermined, and it doesn’t include her shifter lover. They must decide if they are willing to risk it all, or if they can walk away from true love for the sake of the Lightbearer species.

Defining #shifters

Hey, so my latest book came out today. If you want to check it out, here’s the link to Amazon and Goodreads. And yes, I’m excited. It’s called Dawning of Light, and it’s the second in the Lightbearer series, following Into the Light, which came out in July. I’m having a party tonight over on Facebook, if you want to stop by to say hi.

The series is based around a group of magical beings called Lightbearers, and the shifters who hate to love them.

Into the Light dawningoflight_Cover

Here’s a question: why shifters? If I decided to create an entirely new magical being, why did I throw shifters into the mix? The answer is simple: shifters are one of my favorite genres to read. So not coincidentally, I also happen to enjoy writing about them. They are sexy, strong, powerful, hot, did I mention sexy? They can be obsessive and overprotective, but usually those potential character flaws tend to ultimately be good for whomever they are obsessing over or protecting. In my reasonably extensive research, I have learned a few things about these seductive alpha beings.

I’ve learned that they all have one thing in common. All shape shifters have the ability to change from human form into…something else. And that, as far as I have been able to determine, is the single aspect that defines every single shifter in every book I’ve ever read or written. Beyond that, well, every author interprets them a little differently. Which is the way it should be, right? We’re talking magic, and magic is defined by the imagination of the person writing it.

Some shifters can only change into the form of one animal. These are typically referred to as were-animals (werewolves, were-bearers, were- you get the picture). Others are able to shift into pretty much any animal, or, as I like to explain in my books, the form of any warm-blooded being. The shifters in the Lightbearer Series can even shift into the form of birds, if they are so inclined. This comes in handy when one wants to escape rapidly and he’s on the second floor or at the top of a cliff (both situations occur in the first book in the Lightbearer series).

Many shifters’ clothing cannot shift with them. The clothing is either shed before the shift or, if the shift must occur with little notice, the clothing is torn to shreds when the body changes and alters, and the shifter must figure out another means of covering his naughty bits when he returns to human form.

The shifters in my books can shift while wearing clothing, and when they return to human form, their clothing returns to their body exactly as it was before the shift. I admit, I made this decision out of convenience. I considering the no-clothing route because, let’s be honest, that makes more sense, from a non-magical standpoint. But I was having a difficult time writing the whole, “Hold on, I have to strip and hide my clothing for later” aspect into the various scenes and plots and sub-plots of the series. So I decided that if magic can make a person change from human to animal, then magic can make that person’s clothes reappear when they return to human form.

Some shifters have the ability to speak to each other telepathically. Some are able to harness other forms of magic, too. Some have glowing eyes. In my Lightbearer Series, the shifters’ eyes glow when they are feeling strong emotions. Anger, frustration, sadness, passion. Even if the shifter is trying to act stoic and passive, the object of his desire, if she is smart enough, can figure out pretty easily that he feels something, if his eyes are glowing. It’s practically a declaration of love.

Or lust.

Some shifters eat only red meat. Actually, the desire to eat red meat might possibly qualify as the second thing all shifters have in common, now that I think about it. Or maybe not. A vegetarian shifter could make for an intriguing storyline.

Many shifters have obsessive, jealous personalities. Like a dog, protecting his bone. Or his house. Or his mate. My shifters have this trait. In fact, it plays heavily into the next couple of books in the series.

I’m sure I’ve missed a few common traits. What other traits do you notice in your favorite books about shifters or weres? Which traits are your favorite?

And if you’re a fan, but haven’t read the Lightbearer Series, I encourage you to give it a try. I believe you won’t be disappointed!

Meet Tanner Lyons from Into the Light

I figured since Dawning of Light, the second book in the Lightbearer series, is coming out tomorrow, I’d reblog this interview with Tanner, the hero from the first Lightbearer book, Into the Light.

~~~~
It’s a beautiful summer day, and I’ve managed to catch Tanner Lyons during a rare moment of downtime. And alone, as well, which is unusual for the shifter to whom other beings tend to migrate. We are sitting outside a local brewery (his choice, not mine; I would have chosen a winery), in a roped off area that allows us to watch the foot traffic in this small town, and still be able to enjoy the craft beers he seems to favor. Tanner has, not surprisingly, situated himself so that his back is to a solid brick wall, and he can still keep an eye on his surroundings. My first question is a blurted, “Are you looking for someone?”
 He arches one black brow and gives me a cool look. “Have you met my father?”
This interview is not starting on the right foot. I need to try to make up for my blunder. “Tell me about yourself,” I encourage.
“What do you want to know?”
Tanner, I know from the book, Into the Light, is not a man of many words. I suspect this will make the interview a bit of a challenge.
“What do you do for fun?” I ask.
“Fun?” he repeats with another eyebrow arch.
“Yeah, you know: movies, reading, going to the beach. Fun.”
“I have inherited a small pack of lightbearers with no fighting skills whatsoever, my practically invalid mother, and a female shifter with a young child and who is about to whelp her second any day now. Fun doesn’t exactly fit into the equation at the moment.”
I am at a loss for words now. If he isn’t willing to open up to me, I’ll have no material for my blog post. I don’t know what to do.
Abruptly, he softens. “I know you are only trying to do your job,” he admits as he leans back in his chair and takes a long drink from the dark beer he’s selected off the extensive menu. “I’ll tell you what. Let’s talk about Olivia.”
“Olivia? The lightbearer princess?”
“That’s the one,” he agrees, and I cannot help but notice his eyes are glowing faintly. I look around, wondering if any other humans in the vicinity have noticed.
“Humans only see what they want to see,” he says, accurately reading my thoughts.
“Oh. Right. So … tell me about Olivia.”
“She’s beautiful. Strangely delicate and yet impossibly strong all at the same time. She has been forced into a situation she doesn’t want, just because of who she was born to.”
“To whom she was born,” I automatically correct him. Stupid grammar Nazi author.
“Whatever.”
I clear my throat. “So what does that have to do with you? I mean, what’s your relationship?”
“She was captured by my father. He meant to kill her. I rescued her and now have to return her to her coterie.”
“What’s a coterie?”
“It’s this place where all the lightbearers live. It’s protected by a bunch of magical wards. Few lightbearers ever leave those protective wards, and as a result, most shifters assume they’ve gone extinct.”
“Except your father.”
“Yes.”
He clearly does not enjoy discussing the topic of his father, but I press anyway. “Why did he believe they were still alive, when everyone else didn’t?”
Tanner leans forward, those still faintly glowing eyes watching me with an intensity that is utterly unnerving. I want to look away. Actually, I want to run away, but it’s like he’s holding me prisoner, without even touching me.
“Shifters are a highly obsessive group of beings,” he explains in his low, gravely voice. “When we latch onto something – such as an idea or a person – we do not easily let go, if ever.”
“Such as Olivia?” I dare to ask.
“Are you implying something?” he growls.
I shrink away from him. “It’s just that every time you talk about her, your voice softens and your eyes glow and …”
He takes another drink of his beer, shifts his gaze away from me. “She is … special,” he states, almost grudgingly.
“Are you two …?”
“It’s complicated.”
“Relationships usually are.”
“We do not have a relationship. At least …”
“What?” I prod, anticipation thrumming through my system. Is he about to divulge something no one else knows?
He lifts the pint glass, drains the contents and places it back on the table. And then he stands, his gaze sweeping over the groups of humans wandering about the quaint little downtown area. “We’re done here,” he says, and then he is gone. I don’t even know in which direction he went.
And I have no idea how this interview veered so far off course.
Interview with Cade, the HOT Alpha from A Shift in the Water
Today on my blog, I have the pleasure of interviewing – and looking at – Cade Bowman, the (*fans self*) super hot pack leader from Patricia Eddy’s newest book, A Shift in the Water. Here, let me show you who I’m interviewing:
ShiftinWaterTeaser
Yeah, that’s Cade. And this is me, stuttering over my sentences as I try to come across as a calm, cool, collected interviewer. It doesn’t help that he’s a genuinely nice guy, too. I hope Mara knows how lucky she could be. Anyway, let’s get to the interview, shall we?
Tami’s Thoughts: Cade, thank you for taking the time to meet with me today.
Cade Bowman: *Smiles adorably.*
TT: Tell us about yourself. Do you consider yourself your author’s muse or the bane of her existence?
CB: I really don’t like all of the attention that being Patricia’s hero in A Shift in the Water has generated. I’m a private person. Before the events in the book, all I wanted to do was lead my pack, make children’s toys and furniture (I’m a woodworker), and keep to myself. Unfortunately, when you spend seven months trapped as a wolf and then meet your mate, life gets…complicated.
TT (thinking in my head, “Mate? Mate? What?” But somehow I manage to keep the interview on track, barely): What do you think readers like best about you?
CB: Well, I’ve been told I’m nice to look at. Don’t laugh. I’m repeating what readers have said, nothing more. Seriously, though, I’m an alpha. I’m protective by nature. This gets me in trouble from time to time because though I trust my pack and my mate implicitly, I want to keep them safe and I’m not afraid to be a bit of an ass to keep them that way. I think that’s the best and worst of me.
TT: I can’t imagine you ever being an ass. (*Giggling like a schoolgirl.*) Anyway, you mentioned a mate. Tell us about her.
CB: I never wanted to be mated. Never thought I would be. But the first time I saw Mara, I knew. It’s not her beauty, though she’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. It’s her. Her strength. She was dying–or thought she was–and she handled it with grace and dignity. And when she realized she wasn’t dying, but that she was an elemental…yeah, she was scared, but deep down, I think she knew. Seeing her accept who she was and who I was…that was sexy as hell.
TT: (*Wishing I was Mara*): Let’s have some naughty fun. (How can I resist when I’m interviewing someone like Cade?) What’s your favorite place to seduce Mara?
CB: Anywhere. Really. We’re newly mated. The call is so strong, especially for an alpha, that lately I seem to be doing a lot of seducing. In the shower, in the kitchen, in the bedroom. If the weather was nicer right now, we’d be outside under the stars naked every night.
shift_ebook
TT: (At this point, I’ve completely lost my train of thought. All I can do is envision Cade, naked under the stars. He literally has to snap his fingers in front of my face for me to bring the world back into focus.)
TT: Sorry. Right. So anyway… What do you wish your mate understood about you?
CB: I wish Mara could understand how much I hated my wolf after being trapped inside him for so long. It was really hard for me to lose half of my identity. First the human side and then the wolf side. We’re one. Each part–wolf and man–exist as part of the whole. When you can’t stand to even think about part of you, it changes you. There were moments it was hard to even breathe, to think, to put one foot in front of the other. It took a long time for her to understand that part of me.
TT: *Sigh* Let’s see … next question … If you could rewrite one scene in the book, which would it be? How would you rewrite it?
CB: Well, can I rewrite the part where Katerina tortured me for seven months? No? I’d like to get rid of that part.
I wish I’d listened to Bill earlier, taken him more seriously. Because at least then, maybe Livie wouldn’t have been injured. Or Peter. Maybe Bill would still be alive. Maybe I wouldn’t spend every night reliving the fire or the starvation or the fear.
I don’t believe in regrets because you can’t change the past. It happened and for better or worse, it made me who I am today. And though I wish almost everything from May until November had changed, the end result was that I found my mate. I wouldn’t give her up for anything.
TT: I’ve read the book, so I completely understand where you are coming from right now. Okay, how about embarrassing situations? Has your author ever put you into an embarrassing situation, and if so, how did you handle it?
CB: Waking up naked in my mate’s bed, unable to speak was pretty embarrassing. So was meeting her friend Jen, wearing nothing but Mara’s purple bathrobe. I wanted Mara. I’m pretty sure I was hard and that bathrobe did not fit well. Luckily Mara stood in front of me. Otherwise that could have ended…very poorly.
TT: Yeah, I have a visual of that too. Anyway, is there anything in this book of which you are particularly proud?
CB: I’m proud of Mara. She’s so strong. Fearless really. She faced down my entire pack, gained their respect with what she did for me. She didn’t back down when I told her that I was falling for her. She’s amazing. And what she did at the end…well…readers will need to buy the book to find out what happened, but it was life-changing. For everyone.
TT: *More sighing.* Is this guy a heartbreaker or what? Okay, Cade, we’re almost done torturing you. Sorry, bad choice of words. Would you like to add anything else?
CB: If you’re reading this interview, you know that Mara and I mate. That I love her. I hope that knowledge won’t stop you from reading the book. The first chapter is available for sampling on Amazon. I lived through the book, though there were times I didn’t think I would. And I hope that if you like the book, you’ll leave a review. It’s the best way to make sure that Patricia writes the next book in the series. Liam deserves to have his story told.
TT: Just to add to what Cade said, I read his book, and yeah, it’s good. Plus, I really want to read Liam’s story. Okay, Cade, thank you so much for taking the time today. I know this is not your forte, and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you sitting here and letting me look at you – er – interview you about your role in A Shift in the Water. As for you, fair blog reader, if you enjoyed this interview, you’ll really enjoy Patricia’s book. And if you enjoy her books, you’ll surely want to stalk her on social media.
Author Bio: Patricia D. Eddy has been a writer all of her life. She used to sit at her parents’ kitchen counter at an Apple IIe typing out short stories. She even wrote a few on their old typewriter. But it wasn’t until NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) in 2011 that she ever came close to finishing a story she started.Patricia headshot3
Once that dam broke, the floodwaters never receded. Patricia sits down to write every evening after dinner and quite often sees midnight come and go before she heads to bed. She doesn’t sleep much. But she wouldn’t have it any other way.
Patricia is also a founding partner in PageCurl Publishing and Promotion, dedicated to helping all authors succeed without breaking the bank. In her spare (HA!) time she runs, bikes, swims, yogas, reads, and is terribly addicted to Doctor Who and Sherlock. Apparently she has a thing for quirky British men.
DAY SEVEN: A Week of Wands, Fangs, & Wings Paranormal Blog Tour
Welcome to DAY SEVEN of A Week of Wands, Fangs and Wings – A Paranormal Book Blog Tour!
Every day this week we have featured books by EIGHT different authors. What kind of books? Paranormal! What do we mean by paranormal? Well, just as the title implies: wands, fangs, wings and everything in between. Pretty much, if it isn’t real, it might be here. If you enjoy reading all things paranormal, we are about to hand you heaven on a gilded plate. Or, at least, on your e-reader.
What have we had in store for you? Excerpts from cool books. A fun Q&A session with the even-cooler authors who wrote them. A rafflecopter contest in which you could win a total of ELEVEN e-books. Wait, let’s note that again, just for clarification.
Eleven. Books. Free. And TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO ENTER!
Do it. Now.
The contest closes at midnight tonight (EST), and the winner will be announced Friday evening, so don’t forget to enter. As if you would. In the meantime, let’s learn about Rebekah Ganiere.
Rebekah G author picRebekah has been a very busy author. Dead Awakenings debuted in January, Red the Were Hunter in May and she has another, Snow the Vampire Slayer, releasing on September 22, not to mention a trilogy called The Society, which is scheduled to be released in 2015. Is your TBR list growing?
Follow her on social media to keep up with all the latest releases: website ~ Twitter ~ Facebook ~ And on SavvyAuthors.com.
 Rebekah answers a few questions for us as well…
1. Red or White? Red! Always Red!
2. Do you have an actor in mind to play the hero when your book becomes a movie? If so, who? Yes! I always have someone in mind when I write a hero! For Dead Awakenings in the beginning I patterned Luca after Prince Nuada from Hellboy II. And then I saw Hello on Wheels and loved Anson Mount as Luca. Though my friends say he is too old to play Luca. For Adrian, in Red the Were Hunter, I like Henry Cavill, Sigh…Superman!
3. E-book or print? I love the price of E-books but I’d rather hold a book in my hands every day of the week. Of course my hubby wishes I liked e-books more because of how many books I have.
4. Fave paranormal being? Vampires, Love em!
5. Sweet or spicy? Spicy! Always Spicy. I have only ever read one sweet that I really enjoyed.
Don’t you just love learning a little something about the authors who write the books you like to read? Speaking of, Rebekah has two books on this blog tour, Dead Awakenings and Red the Were Hunter. A little taste of each is below:
From Red the Were Hunter…
“Where am I?” asked Redlynn
“In Wolvenglen,” replied Adrian.
“Who in their right mind would live in Wolvenglen? Don’t you know there are Weres out here?”
“Please, put down the knife.” He motioned to the knife Redlynn had forgotten she was pointing at him.
She glanced at it and weighed it in her hand. It was solid. Her hunting knife was larger, but she could make do with it if need be.
“Where are my things? I need to go.”RedCover8.8small
“Hanna, our healer, will bring them in the morning when she comes to check on you, and bring you a change of clothes.”
Still holding the knife, she reached up and touched her collarbone, underneath her cloak. A bandage covered the wound. It was tender. Peeling it away, she assessed what she could see of the damage.
“I wouldn’t do that,” he warned.
Redlynn gave him a hard stare and went back to inspecting the wound. She stuck her fingers in the salve and rolled it between her thumb and forefinger, smelling it.
“Comfrey and calendula.” Pulling at the green leaves, she winced as they ripped a piece of skin and seeped. Smelling the leaves, she put them in her mouth and chewed them before spitting them out. “Fernblend. Did she do that?”
“No, I did.”
“Don’t you know you have to keep it wet?”
“I thought saving your life was more important,” he bit back. “You were in bad shape when I found you.”
“Well when I scrub it off, I am going to wish I were dead. Where did you find me, anyway?”
“Listen.” He took a deep breath. His eyes softened and his voice gentled. “I was trying to help you. It was one of the few things I remember my mother teaching me about herbs.”
“Your mother’s a healer?”
“Was. Now, will you please lie down before you pass out? You lost a lot of blood.”
“I’ve had worse,” Redlynn lied. “I need to get my things and be on my way.”
“You need to rest. You can barely hold that knife, let alone walk through the forest.”
“I’ll be fine.”
He stepped out of her way. “Very well. You are free to leave.” He motioned to the door.
Was this a joke? Was he really going to let her go? Gripping the knife, she took several steady steps toward the exit before her knees buckled. He caught her around the waist, sending a shockwave of tingles through her body.
His musky scent mixed in her nostrils and her head lightened again. His body wasn’t just warm, it was hot; he was a fire in his own right.
“Let go,” she said softly.
“I was merely keeping you from further injuring yourself.”
His light blue tunic opened in a “v” and his chiseled, hairless chest peaked out beneath. Her eyes locked with his. He hadn’t shaved in a day or two; the whiskers looked ruggedly good on him. His face wore an expression she’d never seen aimed at her before. Desire. The butterflies in her stomach danced and spun. His face was so close as he studied her features.
“Please, let go,” she choked, her voice raw with tension.
He continued to stare at her for a moment more, and then swooped her into his arms as if she were a child. She stiffened at the press of his body against hers.
Her heart thundered in her chest. A man had never held her before. “Let go of me.” She pushed at his chest and tried to twist from his grip. The movement made her dizzy again.
“Stop, before I drop you,” he said. He pushed the curtains aside, and laid her where she’d started.
Redlynn’s mind whirled as she lay on the bed. The scent of his skin lingered near her. She swallowed hard. He’d touched her. No man had ever wanted to touch her before.
And here is the excerpt from Dead Awakenings:
Luca was silent for a long time, as if struggling with something. She tuned into his feelings. He was tired, scared, excited. Finally he broke down, and she felt him resign. “I was worried about you. You had a seizure after you passed out and I was concerned, so I stayed.” Luca ran his hands over his face and then back through his hair. He sighed. “There’s something about you. I’m drawn to you in a way that I don’t want to be. You make me feel in ways that I haven’t for a long time. I never thought these emotions would be awakened in me again, but now they have, whether I like it or not. I feel protective of you, possessive even. As though you were meant to be mine.” He took a step closer to her and then another. Evaine’s body responded to his close proximity. Her mouth grew dry, and she tried to swallow.DeadAwakenings_ByRebekahRGranier-800x1200
He lifted his hand slowly and pushed the hair back from her face. The intensity of his gaze burned into her. Something stirred within her. A fire in her belly that made her head swim and her thighs go weak. Luca’s pupils contracted and then narrowed to slits. He caressed her cheek and brought his lips within inches of her. He bent his face to her hair and smelled it, inhaling deeply, and then skimmed down her neck. The fire within her burned. Before she could think about what she was doing or what it all meant, she turned her head and pushed herself forward till her lips met his. He tangled his hand in her long mane in an instant. His other arm wrapped around her, lifting her off the ground and pushing her into the wall. She pressed into him harder, her body exploding at his touch. She gripped the back of his head with all of their strength. He pulled her tight to him. She couldn’t think straight. All of her pain, her fear, her frustration, and her passion poured from her core into him. His emotions swam in her head. All of his pent-up loneliness and sadness melted away. Giving in to his want, his need to be with her and to have her as his own. She took everything he gave. He turned and fell on top of her on the mattress.
She wanted nothing more than to rip his clothes off. The weight of his body hovered over her as he kissed her head, her nose, her neck, her cheeks, her lips. He moved his hands along the thin fabric of her shirt, making parts of her wake up and beg to be touched. The muscles of his back tensed as she raked his skin with her nails through his shirt. He let out a moan and grabbed her hip bones. He was everywhere, and she only wanted more of him.
Wait – that’s it? Damn. Guess we need to provide the book links now:
Rosanna had two books featured on our blog tour. Let’s have a sampling of Predator’s Kiss and Predator’s Claim, shall we?
Predator’s Kiss is first:
She was already reviving a few minutes later. Ryland let out a sigh of relief.
Thank God. When he’d first seen the petite woman hurtling through the trees, he’d worried someone was after her. But no one else had barreled behind her. And yet she’d seemed so scared.
They hadn’t helped, presenting her with a couple of snarling bears.
She moaned a little, and the soft sound warmed him, making him hard again. Damn. He glanced around the room, remembered he didn’t exactly tend to stash clothes in guest cabins, and raced for the bathroom. He grabbed a couple of clean towels off the rack and tossed one to Soren. “Cover yourself.”
Soren grinned like a devil and motioned to his nude bottom half. “I can conduct my flirting business much more efficiently this way.”LSB Cover Art Template for PhotoShop
Ryland glared as he wrapped his lower half in the towel. “Cover yourself or I’ll strangle you with it, lover boy.”
His brother placed the woman’s backpack on the floor and threw the towel about his waist. “Such animosity is really not in keeping with your sainthood, Brother Ryland.”
Ryland ignored him and turned back to the woman. He didn’t know why it mattered so much she recover and feel comfortable in his presence, but it did. Of course, as owner of the lodge, it made sense he didn’t want to see anyone scared or hurt.
Yeah. That’s it. That’s all.
His rationalization did nothing to quell the nervous tremors in his gut, though. Or his excruciating hard-on.
Okay, she’s sorta pretty and has a body made for sin. So what? Get over yourself.
Clearly, it had been too long since he’d allowed himself to get lost in a woman’s body for more than a quick fuck. And this woman’s body deserved slow, leisurely loving. Greedy licks. Sensual tugs. Why, her breasts alone were so full and perfect, they just begged one to suck. To say nothing of those rounded hips and soft, womanly ass.
Ryland ran a hand over his face, feeling overly hot. Jesus Christ. Stop thinking like a horny teenager. You sound like Carter.
Besides, she was nothing like him. Human. And if time had taught him anything, it was the pursuit of romance with a nonshifter was a fool’s errand. She didn’t belong here on his resort, on his island. He needed to revive her and get her out of there.
Desperate to relieve the sudden, raging desire shooting up through his body, Ryland forced himself to look away from the woman. In doing so, he caught a glimpse of his brother. Soren was sitting next to her, his gaze contemplative, his eyes trained on her boobs. Ryland realized he didn’t like the way baby brother was looking at her. “Hey.”
Soren looked up. “What?”
“What are you staring at?”
Without batting an eye, Soren turned back to their unexpected guest. “Her. Can’t I stare?”
Ryland’s eyebrows shot up. “Staring at women has already gotten you into trouble. Maybe you should find a new hobby.” He stifled the low growl building in his throat. Now wasn’t the time for brawling, but he didn’t appreciate the way his brother gawked. His cool eye, appraising, as if he’d never seen anything like her before.
“You were checking her out too,” Soren replied.
“No, I wasn’t. I’m not interested in this … person,” Ryland retorted. As he uttered the words, he bit his tongue hard by mistake, as if confirming the words were a lie. “Damn,” he whispered, tasting blood.
“Do you think someone was chasing her?” Soren asked in a pensive tone, picking up one of his drumsticks and stroking it as if it were a lover’s finger.
“I don’t know.” Ryland sat on the other side of her small body and looked her up and down as she lay under the covers. Despite his mistrust of humans, he couldn’t help wondering who would frighten such a tiny, delicate thing. Had someone tried to hurt her? The very idea made him want to bash his head against the wall. Or better yet, bash any lowlife who dared to touch her.
No one touches her but me, his heart declared.
What?
As another stress headache shot through his brain, he wondered at the ferocity and lunacy of the feeling.
Now, for Predator’s Claim:
He pushed aside one of the suitcases in his way and backed her up against the sitting room wall. He put his hands on either side of her head, closing her in, and leaned toward her. Soaking up the scent of her talc-scented skin and her womanly heat, he inhaled deeply, knowing she was hot for him. “Did our kiss mean nothing to you?”
She blinked. As she stared at him, tears threatened, pooling at the corners of her eyes, but she banished them with another punishing series of blinks. “Nothing.”
Oh, she was good, but he was better. No kidding a kidder, after all. He wet his lips and pinned his gaze on hers, which were now trembling ever so slightly. “You’re fooling yourself.”
“I’m not,” she said on a gulp. “I’m not…”LSB Cover Art Template for PhotoShop
“Oh yes, you are,” he warned, his voice low and deep. “But that’s gonna stop here and now, Charles.” He moved his face closer to hers, bent his head, and dragged his tongue up the length of her neck. When she gasped, he felt her hold her breath and moved his tongue as slowly as possible. He ground his hips against her, and his cock thumped violently against her belly.
She slammed her hands against the wall behind her, clearly trying to get purchase on anything but him. Even still, her hips rolled against his in obvious invitation. “I want you to stop,” she cried. Her chest jerked as the plaint escaped her, and her tears finally tumbled down her cheeks.
He moved away, just millimeters so she could breathe. Cupping her face, he stared her right in the eyes. “Say it again, and maybe I’ll believe you this time.”
“I want you to…” she squeaked.
“What was that? I can’t quite hear you, princess.”
Her lips wobbled and her eyes crinkled in what could only be agony of the worst kind. “I want…Oh God! I want you.”
He let out the breath he’d been holding and shots of heat radiated through him.
Yes!
He took her mouth in a savage kiss, meant to illustrate his dominance over her. He nipped at her lips, none too gently, and felt them swell under his touch. Good. That’s how he wanted her. Plump and overcome and ready for him. Always.
As he drove his tongue into her mouth, tangling it with hers, he heard her groan. Ecstasy made his cock riot in his pants, and he would have done anything in that moment to strip her of her clothes and plunge into her sweet moisture. His Charlotte. His woman. He’d make her his in every sense of the word, and soon.
This Blog Tour runs August 15 – 22, and during that time we will feature books by EIGHT different authors. What kind of books? Paranormal! What do we mean by paranormal? What do we have in store for you? Excerpts from cool books. A fun Q&A session with the even-cooler authors who wrote them. A rafflecopter contest in which you could win a total of ELEVEN e-books. Wait, let’s note that again, just for clarification.
Want a sample of what sort of books Patricia writes? There are two excerpts below. The first is from Secrets in Blood:
Light. Nicola Angliatti’s first thought was that it was unnaturally light. Where was he? He tried to bring his hand up to shield his eyes, but he found it wouldn’t move more than a couple of inches. There was pain. His skin was on fire and his chest ached with every weak breath.
The world slowly came into focus. Above him were bars. He turned his head. More bars. His fangs lengthened automatically in response to the pain coursing through his body. The harsh scent of antiseptic assaulted his nose.secrets_ebook
He looked down at his chest. An angry bullet wound just above his heart and another in his abdomen were still oozing blood. The girl. The vampire snarled and tried to sit up, but he was too weak; he collapsed back onto the floor. His wrists were shackled to a chain around his waist. He tried to break the chain, but his limbs held little strength. The chains were silver.
Merda!” he cursed in his native Italian. His shirt was gone, as were his jeans, socks, and shoes, but he was still wearing his boxers. His legs were unfettered. Unsteadily, he climbed to his feet and tested the bars around the fifteen foot cage he was in. All silver. He kicked at them, but every time his bare foot contacted the silver, he groaned in pain.
Humans. He’d been trapped by humans. The sweet girl’s father and his friends. At least she wasn’t in on it. Her father had all but confirmed it. The trust and acceptance in her eyes had warmed his heart.
Knowing there was nothing he could do to comfort the girl maddened him. The rich scent of her blood had been intoxicating–it was unlike anything he had ever smelled before. There was something special about her. He had not fed from a human since the 1921 treaty he had helped pen, and though he had been tempted, he could never have harmed such innocence. Now, he would surely pay for his kindness with his life.
He was hungry. How long had he been out? The bullets had been removed, but silver wounds healed slowly without human blood to fortify him. A day? A week? No doubt he had missed his planned briefing with the vampire law enforcement in Seattle. The Conclave would look for him. But if he was deep underground, would they ever find him?
“Finally awake, are you?” came the thin, reedy voice from the corner of the room.
Nicola’s head whipped around. “Where am I?” he asked. His voice sounded hoarse and strange to him in this cold, sterile room.
“Does it matter? You’re never leaving.” Slow footsteps approached. The girl’s father smiled a thin-lipped smile. “The cage and the chains are silver. You will not break free.”
Oh my! And now for Patricia’s second book, By the Fates, Freed:
Her desperate grip on my fingers loosened as her eyes fluttered closed. My magic burst forth over my skin, enveloping us in a warm vortex. I hadn’t felt my protective magic flare like that in years. Withdrawing the amulet, I secured it around her neck, just below the shackle. It pulsed with her heartbeat, slower and slower. I touched the ruby and in the old language, I murmured the spell, “I bind your life to mine.” The amulet glowed brighter as the pulsing slowed to a stop. Her life force weighed heavily on me and I struggled to draw air into my lungs.freed_full
The draught of monkshood needed only a few more seconds. Her body gave up its spirit and the shackle split in two. Snatching up the athame, I used it to fling the shackle across the room, sending a powerful spell of unmaking in its wake with a flick of my wrist. As it hit the wall, it shattered into a handful of pieces and a pulse of energy reverberated through the room. Gently, I pricked her palm and then nicked the vein at my wrist, exposing a single drop of my blood. I pressed the sphere to the blood, and it glowed blue as it absorbed a bead of my life force. I dropped the sphere into her palm and closed her fingers around it.
Magic danced over her skin as her body took the power within her. The amulet burned bright enough to blind me as I completed the spell. “My heart held you here. My blood revives you.
I gathered her in my arms, barely able to control my fear. Against the pounding in my chest she was preternaturally still and I begged the Fates with each passing second to release her to me. Finally, my prayers were answered. Her first ragged breath of life nearly shattered me and I crushed her against my chest, closing my eyes for a long moment and pressing my lips to her hair. Finally, I drew back to look at her. An old scar slashed through her lower lip, giving her mouth the barest hint of sadness. I ached to kiss her. Her eyes fluttered and she stirred. “Sleep.” I murmured, not wanting to expose her to what I had planned to do next.
I caressed her pale cheek. Already she had more color, freed from the constant icy grip of the devil’s magic, but she was far from safe. I returned the amulet, the athame, and the sphere to the leather pouch and wrapped her in the waistcoat I’d left here days ago.
